I searched for songs to help my kids learn and remember the three basic states of matter. Below are some of what I found in youtube and in the internet. The first two songs have no youtube videos but they are easy to learn. Just pick the ones you like. Have fun teaching!

1. States of Matter Song
(Sing to the tune of "I'm a Little Teapot”)

I am Matter and I take up space
I have mass and three physical states
My first state is solid
My molecules barely move
My second state is liquid
Where they slide and groove
My third state is gas
My molecules move real fast
Those are my States of Matter
Clap clap clap clap clap

2. Matter Song
(Sing to the tune of "The Farmer in the Dell")

There's matter over here
There's matter over there
Solid, liquid or a gas
There's matter everywhere

A solid keeps its shape
It doesn't separate
What you see is what you get
A solid keeps its shape

Gas is in the air
You can't see but it's there
It flows and blows right through your nose
And fits in anywhere

When you melt a solid down
A liquid can be found
It's wet and moves wherever there's room
And spills and splashes, too

3. Three States of Matter by Roy Kindelberger
(Sing to the tune of "The Wheels on the Bus”)

The three states of matter are solid, liquid, gas,
Solid, liquid, gas;
Solid, liquid, gas.
The three states of matter are solid, liquid, gas,
All day long.

The floor is a solid; you can jump up and down,
Jump up and down;
Jump up and down.
The floor is a solid; you can jump up and down,
All day long.

Water is a liquid you can drink right down,
Drink right down,
Drink right down.
Water is a liquid you can drink right down
All day long.

Air is a gas you can breathe right in,
Breathe right in;
Breathe right in.
Air is a gas you can breathe right in,
All day long.

The three states of matter are solid, liquid, gas,
Solid, liquid, gas;
Solid, liquid, gas.
The three states of matter are solid, liquid, gas,
All day long.

4. States of Matter by: Liana Mahoney
(Sing to the tune of "Bingo")

Solids have a fixed shape
No matter the container
Some are hard, some can break,
but rigid solids hold their shape.
Solids have a fixed shape,
And ice is a solid.

Liquids always take the shape of their containers.
Liquids flow, liquids pour;
Sometimes they spill on the floor! liquids flow;
Liquids pour, and water is a liquid.

Gases fill the volume and shape of their containers.
Some we breathe, but we can't see;
Others we can smell (Pew-ee)
Gases fill shape readily,
And steam is a gas.

5. Matter Song
(Sing to the tune of "The Farmer in the Dell")

Solid, liquid, gas
Solid, liquid, gas
Solid, liquid, gas
Three states of matter
Solid, liquid or a gas

A solid keeps its shape
Some hard, some can break
Like a table or roll of tape
A solid keeps its shape

A liquid's shape depends
On the container that it's in
Like a cup or metal tin
A liquid's shape depends

A gas you cannot see
It's in the air we breathe
Helium, oxygen, steam
A gas you cannot see

6. The Matter Song by David Newman

Now there's some matter here before me...
What kind of matter could it be?
I'll list some properties:
• It's hard.
• It has its own shape.
• And it's visible.
So what kind of matter could it be?
[Solid! Right!]

So when I wonder what can the matter be
I'll make a list of its properties
And when I'm finished then I can see
If it's solid or it's liquid or it's gas.

They're all around us in every place
They all have mass and they take up space
But every one is a special case
It's a solid or a liquid or a gas.

There's other matter here before me...
What kind of matter could it be?
I'll list some properties:
• It can be poured.
• It changes shape.
• And it's visible.
So what kind of matter could it be?
[Liquid! Right!]

So when I wonder what can the matter be
I'll make a list of its properties
And when I'm finished then I can see
If it's solid or it's liquid or it's gas.

They're all around us in every place
They all have mass and they take up space
But every one is a special case
It's a solid or a liquid or a gas.

There's still more matter here before me...
What kind of matter could it be?
I'll list some properties:
• It's filling the room.
• It changes shape.
• And it's invisible.
So what kind of matter could it be?
[Gas! Right!]

So when I wonder what can the matter be
I'll make a list of its properties
And when I'm finished then I can see
If it's solid or it's liquid or it's gas.

They're all around us in every place
They all have mass and they take up space
But every one is a special case
It's a solid or a liquid or a gas.
It's a solid or a liquid or a gas.
It's a solid or a liquid or a gas.
